You know, I don’t think Harry’s friendship with the Twins is appreciated enough. Ron was Harry’s best friend and Ginny had a crush on Harry, but the twins were just 2 years older than him, boys, and accepted him into the family completely, despite Harry being trouble with a capital T. The Twins never cared that Harry was the BWL, or that he was always getting their little brother into life or death situations. They stood up for Harry from day 1, and acted selflessly, and even responsibly, for him.

Harry, in return, always valued the Twins, and appreciated their humor, ambition, skill and strength. He trusted and believed in them when even Molly didn’t.

I think people forget all those meals or Quidditch practices they had together, or those times they lived under the same roof, or those times they fought together.

I’m going to forget about a 1000 moments between the Harry and the Twins, but let’s remember some of them, and I hope you’ll add the ones I forgot:

  • Remember that time everyone was afraid of Harry because they thought he was the Heir of Slytherin, but the Twins made fun of the situation and made Harry feel normal and like someone believed in him?
  • Remember how Harry never got George and Fred’s names wrong?
  • Remember how the Twins didn’t bat an eye when Harry became an honorary member of their family? Or when he started dating their sister?
  • Remember how every time Harry lost them a Quidditch game, the Twins were never upset and stayed with him in the hospital wing?
  • Remember how the Twins, and Ron, drove their dad’s car to rescue Harry from the Dursleys?
  • Remember how they gave Duddley one of their little inventions because he was nasty to Harry?
  • Remember how the Twins gave Harry the Marauder’s Map because he couldn’t go to Hogsmeade like everyone else?
  • Remember when Harry gave the Twins all his winnings from the Triwizard Tournament for them to spend on their shop?
  • Remember when he told them to buy Ron some new robes and they did, despite usually enjoying having a good laugh at Ron’s expense?
  • Remember when the Twins got themselves expelled buying Harry some time to contact Sirius?
  • Remember how the Twins kept giving Harry updates about their shop, and offered any item of theirs for free, because they were so grateful to Harry?
  • Remember how the Twins volunteered to help Harry in the Battle of the 7 Harrys?
  • Remember how of every character, the Twins were the ones who never doubted Harry and Harry never doubted the Twins?

Of all of Harry’s friendships, his relationship with Fred and George is my favorite, because of how unlikely, easy and pure it is. The Twins are so different from Harry, yet they all go together so well! (I wish we’d seen more of Harry’s reaction to Fred’s death.)

In almost every musical ever written, there’s a place; it’s usually about the third song of the evening. Sometimes it’s the second, sometimes it’s the fourth, but it’s quite early, and the leading lady usually sits down on something. Sometimes it’s a tree stump in Brigadoon, or sometimes it’s under the pillars of Covent Garden in My Fair Lady. Or it’s a trash can in Little Shop of Horrors. But the leading lady sits down on something and sings about what she wants in life. And the audience falls in love with her, and roots for her to get it for the rest of the night. - Howard Ashman
